Care and expectations after pregnancy

If you have just given birth or you just want to know what to keep in mind after birth, well, there are a lot of important things that you ought to know. No pregnancy is an easy one and sometimes it can really take a toll on you and your body. The changes that take place can be almost extraordinary and daunting but there’s nothing to worry about.

Your body pushes itself before and during pregnancy

Your body makes way for the baby and after you have given all your energy during birth, your body may not exactly look like what it used to be. That’s completely normal, you can obviously workout to get your body back in shape but that is much after you have given your body the rest and care it requires.  Some women tend to get distressed whereas some feel proud that they have nurtured and brought a baby into this world. There are some things that you will have to come to accept about yourself immediately post-pregnancy body.

Here they are:

A larger and looser stomach- Your stomach isn’t going to look like what it once was, you just had a baby growing inside it. Your shape will have a change and you will have to still wear maternity clothes for a while.

Larger and tender breasts- Because of the pregnancy they will be larger with visible veins and they will even drip if you are breastfeeding.

The stretch marks- You will have stretch marks on your stomach and thighs but they will eventually fade.

Here’s how to care for your body:

Get plenty of rest- Make sure to sleep when your baby is sleeping because he or she will not have a fixed schedule. Take naps whenever you can, don’t be conscious, you need it.

Have a healthy diet- Your body needs to recover and heal because of all the changes. Don’t forget to eat. Have meals that contain fruits, vegetables, grain, proteins, and dairy.

Get help if you need to- There is nothing wrong about asking for help. It can be stressful for you and your spouse to take care of the baby along with the everyday chores. Hire help or ask a family member to help out so that you and your spouse can focus on taking care of the baby for a while. Bonding with the baby is a must especially when you are breastfeeding.

You need to remember that pregnancy is no easy battle and when you win you get to bring a beautiful human being into this world. You get to be a parent, friend, role model and caregiver. It is a good idea to be aware of everything and it is important to take care of your child and yourself.
