Changes during pregnancy

Pregnancy can be a very pleasurable and at the same time difficult for every woman. The changes that take place in her body can be both pleasant and distressful. At first, it starts with a missed period, fatigue, tiredness and drowsiness but as the days go by eventually the morning sickness kicks in or the reaction to certain food and smells. However, all of this goes away by the second trimester.

As your body starts to adjust to all these changes, you end up getting extremely tired and you will need to sleep longer. It’s a good idea to even get frequent naps as much as you can until you feel rested. Aside from this, there are other symptoms that a pregnant woman will experience.

       The need to urinate frequently- You will want to urinate more often because your uterus pushes down against your bladder. You may even urinate a little when you cough or sneeze. This is completely natural.
       Feeling lightheaded- Since your body is doing its best to produce more blood for your child, you will feel dizzy. This can even happen if you are hungry, stressed or feeling weak.
       Sudden and random heartburn- Hormonal changes end up slowing down the process of muscles breaking down the food in the body. Since your body takes time to absorb the nutrient, the food will stay in your stomach for a longer period of time. This can end up causing heartburn.
       Being constipated- Since the food starts taking longer to break down, you will either feel bloated, have gas or end up constipated. You should drink plenty of fluids at this point of time to avoid it.
       The emotional changes- The hormonal changes, fatigue and stress may end up making a woman’s emotions change erratically. You could be happy one minute and then sad the next. It’s not your fault, your body is doing the best it can with the time it is given.
       Changes in the skin- A woman will have that ‘glow’ while being pregnant. It is because of the blood circulation being increased. Sometimes with extra oil, you may even end up having acne flaring up as well.

 Although these are some of the symptoms pregnant women experience, you have to remember that everyone is different and symptoms may vary while these are the most common ones. It can be mild or severe depending on the person and it usually isn’t any cause for concern. At this point of time the best you can do is try to relieve the symptoms as far as possible and if there is anything that causes you to worry, then you can consult a doctor just to be on the safe side.

       Get plenty of rest- Make sure to sleep when your baby is sleeping because he or she will not have a fixed schedule. Take naps whenever you can, don’t be conscious, you need it.

       Have a healthy diet- Your body needs to recover and heal because of all the changes. Don’t forget to eat. Have meals that contain fruits, vegetables, grain, proteins, and dairy.

       Get help if you need to- There is nothing wrong about asking for help. It can be stressful for you and your spouse to take care of the baby along with the everyday chores. Hire help or ask a family member to help out so that you and your spouse can focus on taking care of the baby for a while. Bonding with the baby is a must especially when you are breastfeeding.

You need to remember that pregnancy is no easy battle and when you win you get to bring a beautiful human being into this world. You get to be a parent, friend, role model and caregiver. It is a good idea to be aware of everything and it is important to take care of your child and yourself.

Whether you are trying to conceive or if you are already pregnant, there are some things that you should do during your first trimester (first 3 months of pregnancy) to make sure that everything goes well. Pregnancy can be very exciting yet also very stressful. A woman goes through so much emotionally, physically and mentally that it could affect her day to day activities. If she gets stressed or if something doesn’t agree with her it could have a negative effect on the baby as well. It’s important that you keep a healthy diet, keep yourself relaxed and calm. Aside from all this, there are other things that you should do to ensure a safe pregnancy.

  3. Quit Alcohol and Smoking- Be very strict about this if you do smoke or drink.   4. Follow a balanced diet- Follow a healthy diet and stick to that, cut down caffeine and aerated drinks. You don’t actually need more calories during your first trimester, you just have to keep to a healthy diet.
  5. Try to prevent morning nausea- You should try to eat little and eat frequently in order to combat morning sickness. Limited physical activity is recommended during the first 3 months of pregnancy
  6. Get plenty of rest- It is common for a pregnant woman to feel exhausted during the first trimester. Get as much rest as you can, sleep early, take naps, you certainly need it.
  7. If you need to do chores, do them safely- Be careful when handling certain products or chemicals because that could be harmful or it could cause your nausea. Always use gloves while doing your chores and if your work could affect your pregnancy, then you need to take leave from the start.
  8. Traveling should be minimized: to necessity and avoid exercise like walks, taking stairs frequently or household work like sweeping and moping, carrying buckets of water during the first trimester
